Canal Boats

This canal in Regents Park is one of London's finest.

Gas Works Park

Peggy and I joined Urban Sketchers just after that early trip to Gas Works, so we made up for it yesterday. I was packing some rubber stamps and collage bits to add a little something. Lots of fun... including eavesdropping on the kite fliers, wondering if the guy providing instruction was a professional, a life coach or an overbearing friend of the other two.

Steamroller Smackdown

Last Saturday was the Wayzgoose Steamroller Smackdown held at the School of Visual Concepts.
Different teams competed by designing and producing printed posters with the help of a Steamroller.
It was quite dramatic!

Pike Place Market

Did the line drawing for this sketch in November and got new watercolors yesterday so I tested them out on my old sketch.

THE STREETS OF SANDWICH

All of your sketches from the crawl are great. Sorry to have missed you. Please check out my research on my blog and become a follower (citypeak.blogspot.com). Last weekend my family and I visited the town of Sandwich in County Kent about 20 miles north of the city of Dover. I loved this little city that is birth place of the famous lunch food. The building on the right is over 500 years old. Taxes were based on the footprint of the building so naturally designers took advantage of the air over the sidewalk and increased the floor area as they went up. The streets were two-way but passing another vehicle with pedestrians on the sidewalk and parking on one side was absolutely laughable.

Kenmore Air Repair

An excellent day at Kenmore Air and I also got a great tour of the workshop. I look forward to going back to draw some more.

Kenmore Air Bright and Early!

I had a rough time getting up so early for the 7:30 am sketch meet up, but it was worth it for the sunshine and great space. Here are a few of my sketches, I'm new to water colors, but am having fun learning and playing with the medium:

Another view of Kenmore Air

Fun day sketching at Kenmore Air. My first time drawing an airplane. I've never really noticed the airplanes flying over Lake Washington before but while running the BG trail today I couldnt keep my eyes off of them - very cool!

Kenmore Air

It was really informative to witness Kenmore Air's operations and to be able to see their floatplanes up close. Having built a lot of model planes when I was younger, I understood the three-dimensional form of the fuselage and wings but it was still difficult to get the proportions right. Nevertheless, machines and especially airplanes are fun to draw.

Great Day @ Kenmore Air

We got up early to see the float planes being loaded in the water and getting ready for take off.  It was a beautiful day and setting.  There was so much going on and things moving so fast that I was able to get 5 sketches done!

Great location! Float planes are a challenge, but I had fun trying to sketch them before they flew away.

Lessons in Proportion

What a fun, new challenge it is to sketch airplanes. The location at Kenmore Air was really pleasant. I arrived about 9:00 and missed the excitement of the planes leaving. So I have no excuse for this squat, little pigeon toed Disneyesque sketch I offer here. There seemed to be a good turnout. These pictures were taken at around 10:00 but more folks came later. Thanks for arranging this creative setting!

Kenmore Air

This was a really exciting and enjoyable sketchcrawl.

Sketch Crawl Sunday August 21st

This Sunday we are meeting for a sketchcrawl at Kenmore Air in Kenmore Washington on the north edge of Lake Washington.  If you want to see and sketch float planes being loaded into the water, be there between 7:00-8:00 am.  From 8:00 am to 9:00 am multiple planes take off for South Lake Union.
More flights happen at 9:00 am and around 2:00pm.  There are  private planes and a few Kenmore planes parked at Kenmore after the flights so if you arrive after flights have taken off there is still much to sketch.  Also next door is Log Boom park, another location that has been on our list.  There will not be an official start time since people may want to arrive at different times.  Let's try to connect at 10:00 am at the terminal entrance so the early birds can touch base with the late comers.

National Night Out

Magnolia Big Band
Tonight was National Night Out.  Our neighborhood blocks the street from through traffic and we have a block party.  Each year it is seems to get bigger and bigger.  Neighborhood kids ride their bikes in the blocked off street, we set up tables and chairs in the street and have a potluck.  Best of all we have our own Big band playing.  One of our neighbors is a member of the Magnolia Big Band.  It is a group that has been together for 40 years playing Big Band Jazz.  Tuesday nights is their practice night so each year on National Night out we get to enjoy their wonderful sound!

We've Installed the Sketches @ Our Storefront!

Thanks to Olivia Heung,  Jonathan Teng, and Christopher Wong for spearheading this effort.  There was a lot of back and forth with the building owners and Storefronts Seattle and this team to get the install to happen.  They painted on Saturday in the heat in a narrow 15-18" space.  On Sunday, they hung the sketches.  Here are some photos from that install.  There is still work to be done.  The decals with the Urbansketcher's logo and names are still to come.  Storefronts Seatttle Decal is coming  too.  But it is a start at least.  This display will be ongoing until the end of the year.  Pages will be rotated with the ongoing help of the gang.  Go take a look at it!  It is located on Thomas between Terry and Boren.
