Day and Night

I was disappointed to miss the adhoc sketch outing. All the work from that looked great!  Here are two sketches I have done recently.  One was done in the early after noon on a bright sunny day.  The other was started at dusk and finished as the light dropped off so much that I couldn't see my page.

GARDENS

A couple of weeks ago the weekly theme for urbansketchers flickr group was to sketch a garden.  Since ours is in really bad shape, I went to the Japanese Tea Garden instead to try another attempt at drawing landscape.  This came out better than my first attempt.  Also looking at the work of urbansketchers on the international blog helped me see how much value some people use to create depth and differentiation.  This was also my second attempt at sketching on a larger format.  This was 10 x 15 approximately.

Thanks to all the local symposium attendees for sharing what was going on. I vicariously got to experience the symposium through you all. It sounded wonderful and I wish I could have attended. I look forward to more posting of your sketches from your time there.

While you were at the symposium on Thursday, I went to the Japanese Tea Garden with some UW students to sketch for the afternoon. It was really a challenge to change from buildings to trees. I had one unsuccessful drawing in the park but was able to get a decent sketch at the entry and a sketch of the waterlilies and carp that I was happy with. So here it is. Look forward to our next meeting.
