Beautiful, crisp Sunday morning

I really enjoyed seeing so many sketches and fellow sketchers. We all had numb fingers after sitting out side for a few hours, but it was worth it! 

Beautiful Day at Sculpture Garden

The sun, the wind, the clouds, the mountains and the absolute vivid light of our glorious September. We had a lovely morning of sketching, watercoloring and sharing with the students and instructors from WSU.

A hidden delight

Never even knew about this great spot with some of the best views of Seattle. Sunday's outing was great.
I loved sketching to the sound of sea lions. Wonderful seeing everyone's sketches...inspiring.

more air

Okay, so I'm obsessed with the Fred Meyer parking lot in Shoreline. Blame it on my 93-year-old's dentistry! This was my treat for the day, standing around looking goofy drawing power lines. There were a lot of gorgeous pieces of heavy equipment milling around but I only had half an hour (really, I'm that slow).

English Bay

Visited Vancouver, British Columbia this week! First real trip away from home in over a year. What an invigorating place! Vancouver has experienced lots of development since I was last there, but still maintains wonderful waterfront for human recreation. I agree with Tyler. There is no better way to appreciate our great luck than to pay attention to it!

A big fishing reel

I've been going to Fishermans' Terminal for (umm...) five decades -- we had many family birthday dinners at the "Wharf" restaurant -- but I'd never made a picture there before. There are more pleasure craft now and fewer working boats, but here is one.

fairhaven shipyard

Got to go up to Bellingham a couple weeks ago with my husband, whose ferry was in the Fairhaven shipyard there. While he worked 12 hours I hung out around the shipyard sketching and painting.

Here's my morning view from the public boat launch down the road. The ferry is in the background center right.

Here is a view of the parking lot across the railroad tracks, from the loading dock where I trespassed to get this sketch.

And finally, here is my oil sketch of the boat launch water view. I was sketching practically on the railroad right-of-way and had to get out of the way of a few trains! Really a great place.

flowers and feathers

Here is the sketch I had the most fun with at the Lake City Farmer's Market on June 18, with Frances and then Dave! This flower seller had the most beautiful peonies, but peonies intimidate me. I was happy to stand there drawing these lush beauties, and the seller came and talked with me too. Fun!

Remember the old Woodworker's Store in Wallingford? Now it's called Rockler's. This is from last week in the sun. Wonder why I'm always sitting in a hot car waiting outside such places...

Lake City Farmer's Market

So -- Dave had this great idea to sketch at the Lake City Farmer's Market. What a perfect day in the heat and sunshine! The blues band mugged for the littlest kids, heckled the hecklers, and played "You Got to Move." Gets my vote!
It was great to meet Dave, see just a few drawings (hope to see more later), compare favorite places, and see Gabi again. We agreed we'd post our drawings -- so Dave, now you're "it!" Looking forward to your sketch!

darrells tavern

yesterday I took my 93-year-old to the dentist, and walked over to the Fred Meyer nearby to wait. lo and behold, they have a coffeeshop looking over at Darrells Tavern, and none of the regular customers even took the window tables! A sketcher's dream come true.

fry's parking lot

Last February I was sitting in a hot car in the parking lot of Fry's, waiting. While I waited I sketched the closest contractor's truck. Funny how satisfying these little sketches can be when there is no pressure to make them, just passing the time!
The truck finally rolled away so I started in on the concrete trucks across the fence. This was with value pens. Only got partway into the second value before my pal returned and we left.

Have to say, I love Tony's sketch of the giant typewriter eraser sculpture on the logo. Perfect for this blog!!
