Next Sketch Outing
Thursday, Sept. 4: Emerald Forest Theater
Sunday, November 20 1204 Minor AvenueSeattle, WA 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, stewards of Stimson-Green Mansion have generously offered to open up this architectural and historic jewel on a Sunday morning just for our group. We have been to this location before, back in February of 2012, and it's variety and comfort make it a perfect location for rainy Seattle winters.
Read more about its history and significance. And plan to come to participate in this really rich sketch opportunity.
P.S. Washington Trust for Historic Preservation has partnered with Seattle Urban Sketchers to auction several sketches of special locations around the state. The auction will be held sometime in December and the proceeds split between the two organizations. Many thanks to WTHP and to David Chamness for arranging this opportunity.
Sunday July 31
Amgen Helix Pedistrian Bridge
10 am - 12:30
We'll meet up at the Fish On Bait Tackle and Cafe at Terminal 91. (See
Monthly Outings tab for parking I found on Yelp.) This is a funky little cafe that has parking nearby. There is also parking in a very small lot just across from the east entrance to the bridge on Elliot.
We've been to this spot in the past and everyone wanted to return because of the variety of sketch opportunities, the bridge, the industrial silos, the park and water views.
It should be a great summer outing. Hope to see you there!

way we have more indoor sketching options and we won't overwhelm one

The
Burke Museum is offering Seattle Urban Sketchers a special group
discount for our sketch outing on Sunday, March 15! The regular price
for general admission is $10, but on that day, we’ll get in for half
price -- $5! To take advantage of this deal, please identify
yourself as an “Urban Sketcher” at the front desk and mention the
half-price discount. The staff will have the promotion in their log for the day, so they’ll be prepared to offer the discount.
Please
note that pencils and colored pencils are allowed in the galleries, but
paints are not. We're checking on pens, so will update when we know
more. Also, you might want to scale down your sketch bag: "Large bags
are not allowed in the exhibit galleries. This includes large purses,
backpacks, shopping bags, briefcases, large totes and baby bags."
Update 2/28: stools are allowed.
Update 3/5:
Although pens are generally not allowed in the galleries, the museum is
making an exception for Urban Sketchers because they know we would be
careful, so let’s all use extra care and show them that we can be neat.
(Pens must be self-contained, not dip pens that require ink bottles.)
The
Burke is home to an amazing variety of collections, from full-size
skeletons of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals to the original
native American mask that inspired the Seahawks logo. The mammoth tusk
that was discovered in Seattle last year is there, as are human
artifacts from 17 cultures. Great stuff to sketch for everyone!
For those who don't want to pay the entry fee, there are interesting indoor and outdoor locations around the campus.
