Next Sketch Outing

Saturday, Nov. 9: Pt. Townsend (ad hoc)

When I was little, my dad used to like to go to a restauraunt down by the highway 99 hat 'n' boots gas station so we would always stop and check it out. I've always loved cowboy boots so of course thought it was incredibly cool. I didn't know it had moved to a park until the barista at the All City Coffee shop mentioned that if she were a sketcher, she would like to draw it. So, after arriving to meet everyone for the sketchcrawl and hearing from her that it was a few blocks away, I decided to set out to find it. I remembered that Mark Ryan had done a beautiful sketch of it awhile back so I thought I would like to see it again after all these years. I had no idea until I stumbled upon it with my google map that it was in the middle of a park and the Georgetown P-Patch. I am not so good at sketching floral and tree scenes, but was struck by all the colors and did my best to capture all of the interesting garden activity going on around the old hat 'n' boots. I realize I need some tips and practice with color after attempting this, but it was a nice and very peaceful place to spend the morning and I think I would like to go back and try again sometime...

  1. Nice job Jackie! I just sketched this myself this summer at the rare outdoor Sketch Pistols event! I'm so glad they've been saved.

  2. This is great Jackie. It's been a summer of exploding, festive plants and you really showed that.
