Old Truck Graveyard

On the corner near the Georgetown Farmer's Market. Challenging to draw sitting so close, but the view from across the street was obscured by poles and parked cars. Beautiful day to sit in the sun with my earbuds in.

Quick Sketches on the way to Bainbridge Island

Had to catch the ferry to Bainbridge Wednesday morning.  We ran and missed it.  So I had 30 minutes to have breakfast and catch a sketch.  The first sketch was at Apassionato Cafe in the ferry terminal.
Second sketch was on the ferry just before we left the terminal.

Alley 24

This alley is such a great marriage of the existing buildings on Pontius with the new development along Yale. Gail made an excellent scale figure.

Human Powered

My first sketch with Urban Sketchers Seattle. This is at the Mercer St. Corridor construction site during Sunday's sketchcrawl and is the second time I've painted here. The first time I managed to kill my car battery in the middle of the construction site (in the middle of the day) which is rather embarrassing and might have killed the painting too. This time I came back with just a stool, some paper, a pencil, and paint. Who needs batteries.

Yet another Saint Spiridon

I loved this neighborhood. It was a nice mix of interesting architecture and market-like, small businesses, and people. A lot of people from the church stopped by to chat or tell a bit of story. Great lunch conversation among us also. Very fun sketchcrawl.

St. Spiridon

One more view of the Orthodox cathedral, though there is lots more to do in this neighborhood. Loved all the REI sale visitors asking what we were doing!

transition

I was going to hold off posting any napkin sketches, thinking it might be well to "save" them for the SAF event, but as it won't be the first any of us have shared, here's one of mine. More at http://www.flickr.com/photos/fuzzyimagearts/

This is the ceiling of King Street Station, being restored after removal of the dropped ceiling that hid its grandeur for many years. The dropped lighting is still there though! Sketched on location (of course).

Sketch/Painting of Trees

Here's a sketch/painting (watercolor) from a recent outing with Beth near Lake Washington. It was a very sunny beautiful day, full of color...

St. Spiridon Standing Proud

After realizing I was a slacker and did not do my napkin sketch for the SAF ahead of time, I did this view of St. Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral. Because I was using a fountain pen, I tried to be careful about not overdrawing the lines. Fortunately, Olivia suggested I color the onion domes, for which she graciously lent me her blue Micron pen.

Immanuel Lutheran Constructed 1907

Immanuel Lutheran is on the National Registy of Historic Places and adds needed continuity to the Cascade Neighborhood now referred to as South Lake Union.

Churches, REI sale, and Flowers, oh, my

The weather cooperated for a little outdoor sketching today. Onion domes, REI sale, and flowers at the Seattle Pea Patch made for interesting subjects. Great to see everyone.

Great turnout!

20 people counting the photographer - plus a few others who did not end up in this photo. Great turnout. Fun to see so many Urban Sketchers!

Russian Othodox Church Seattle - 5-22-11

Cascade Neighborhood & Napkin Sketches

Great day of sketching which started off looking at everyone's napkins sketches at Vivace.  I was really astounded at the quality of the sketches.  They were really great!
Here are the two napkin sketches I did and a final view of Alley 24.  It is my favorite alley.

Great to get out with the Sketchers again!

Cool hanging with the Seattle sketch group downtown today. Especially happy to meet Tommy Kane, one of my favorite inspiring sketchers, all the way from New York. Thanks everyone! Looking forward to seeing your posts.

Rat City Roller Girls at Key Arena

There were many more fans than I drew but I was trying to watch the game (and eat popcorn, super spicy chips and licorice).

Our next sketch crawl will be Sunday May 22nd.  We are meeting at Espresso Vivace on 227 Yale Ave N. Across the street from REI's Flagship store.  There is a lot of street parking.  Meet at 10:00 in front of Vivace.  Remember to bring your napkin sketches completed!!!  Nick from Seattle Architecture Foundation will be there to collect them.  We look forward to seeing what everyone has done.
Attached is a map of the area.  See Sketchcrawl Locations page for photos of the area.

A Musical Week

In the last two days I attended two musical events put on by Garfield High School.  One was the Vocal Jazz Solo night at The New Orleans Creole Restaurant. The second was the Garfield Orchestras Foyer Concert.

Ocean Shores Caboose Rental

Stayed Mother's Day weekend in this converted train in Ocean Shores. Behind this car were several passenger cars stripped of the seats but with most of the decor intact: overhead reading lights, luggage racks, etc. My folks, aunts, cousins, kids, and Jackie and Zalia ran on the beach, hot tubbed, road horses, played Pinochle, played in the rain.

Next crawl

Just wanted to clarify we are meeting on May 22nd, not May 15th. Gail will post more later!

While I'm here thought I'd share this w/c sketch from Green Lake from a couple weeks ago.
