View from Elizabeth's Houseboat

Sat on the deck of Elizabeth's houseboat on Lake Union on a cold, overcast day. Crummy drawing weather but a nice lunch and nicer company. I'll try again on a sunny day.

Two Days of Sun in Seattle

Can you believe we had two consecutive days of sun in Seattle?!  Saturday for the 32 WW sketchcrawl we had a beautiful day.  Sunday was just as amazing, so I walked to the University Bridge and found a small park at the base of Furhman St.  under I-5 and did this sketch looking across the ship canal towards Chihuly's Studio and the bridge on the other side.

Elephant Car Wash 4th Ave S

Another Elephant Car Wash from the WW Sketchcrawl. Nice day sitting in the sun. I was hoping to add a car coming out of the car wash but there were surprisingly few and they drove away so fast I couldnt event snap a photo in time so I settled for the woman having a smoke break. I love Elephant Car Wash - just might have to draw the one on 99 next time...

4th Ave. South "The Strip"

Elephant Car Wash
Fire Station No. 4
We met today for the 32 WW Sketchcrawl along the strip on 4th Ave. S. We were able to draw some iconic landmarks of Seattle.  The Elephant Car Wash and Fire Station No. 4.  This was particularly timely since we found out from a passer by that Fire Station No. 4 is slated to be torn down this next year to make room for a new fire station.

As you can see, I was east of Susan on the other side of the parking lot. Fun location to sketch. Wish I would have had more time today as a number of things appealed to me for sketching.

Dumpsters and Tiny Car on Terry & Thomas

Showed up late to sketchcrawl after running the See Jane Run 1/2 marathon at Lake Union. While I was wandering around looking for some of the other sketchers I stumbled across this cute little car and dumpsters on Terry and Thomas. It started to rain pretty hard as soon as I sat down to draw. A security guard came by and said if he didnt think his girlfriend would get mad, he'd give me his umbrella. I assured him I was OK and that I hadnt had an umbrella for about twenty years but didnt last much longer and packed up when I realized my paper was getting so wet it was about to rip and went inside to finish from a photo in Zokas. I noticed the little car was gone as soon as I came back outside so just as well. Fun sketchcrawl sitting there in rain, shorts, and wet clothes with sketch full of inky raindrops.

Winter in July?

Sculpture plaza near Amazon - absent were any signs of people on this rainy Sunday morning in Seattle.

Living in Seattle we have mild winters, but unfortunately, sometimes summer looks a little too much like winter.

Rainy July Sketchcrawl

July is suppose to be hot and sunny!  It was not that way today.  It was so miserable it was hard to find a place to comfortably sketch.  So Olivia Heung and I found a nice warm coffee shop to sketch in.  We went to Dahlia Workshop which is an industrial space that has been converted to 3 establishments, a coffee shop, wine tasting shop, and restaurant.  It is a great space and wonderful to spend some time in and sketch.  Here are my sketches from today.  The other place we had lunch at was Brave Horse Tavern. The pretzel sandwiches were great!

July Sketchcrawl

We had a wet miserable day.  But still people showed up.  Here are photos from the sketchcrawl.
At the Storefronts Seattle Window and after the sketchcrawl.  Even with the rain we probably had around 15-18 people show up.

Georgetown Boots - Oxbow Park

Went to Georgetown (Seattle) and stumbled across the landmark Hat and Boots. Once a gas station and part of a western themed shopping complex called Frontier Village in the 1950's, the hat (not shown) was the cashier stand and the boots were the men and ladies restrooms. They were rescued from a dilapidated state by volunteers and relocated to Oxbow Park.

When I first arrived a family of four were having a picnic on the toe of the first boot. The hat is placed quite a ways from the boots and will have to be a separate sketch another day.

Construction site

Stopped by the Fairwood Shopping Center for a coffee and a sketch. They tore down the vacant QFC building and are putting in a L.A. Fitness. There goes my excuse that the gym is too far away......

Madison Park Starbucks & St. James

Had coffee this morning at Madison Park Starbucks which was recently remodeled and now has a wine bar.  Also finished a sketch of St. James that I started on Thursday. Didn't have time to watercolor it there so I took a picture this morning and finished the water color at home.

International Language, Seattle, um, Institute- Academy, something like that...

Rode the bike to my Mandarin class a little early to draw the building that houses the school with the vexing name...

A fun evening doodling with the Sketch Pistols

Six of us met up at Zoka's, near Greenlake for a couple of hours of drawing, good coffee and tea and shooting the breeze. A nice group of artsy folks.
