flowers and feathers

Here is the sketch I had the most fun with at the Lake City Farmer's Market on June 18, with Frances and then Dave! This flower seller had the most beautiful peonies, but peonies intimidate me. I was happy to stand there drawing these lush beauties, and the seller came and talked with me too. Fun!

Just to get us all in the mood, I'll throw in last month's goose from Fishermen's Terminal .

Lake City Farmers Market -part 2!

It was a good day for sketching for sure. It was also a pleasure to meet both of you ( Gabi and Beth ). Thanks to both of you for sharing your sketches and techniques. I'm looking forward to spending more time sketching with both of you and meeting the rest of you.

The sketch turned out ok. It is funny comparing the three sketches. Gabi's is a close up. Beth's is a little larger. Mine takes in even more. I like drawing roof lines and trees.

"Motor Boat Marina"

SB08_01-18

I sketched this from a dock that I paddled up to this morning. This building is used as a parking garage by the UW Surplus Department. The surplus store is out of the frame to the left. That building is wrapped and being painted. I was chatting with some of the painters, who had a net and were pulling dead fish out of the water ( the same water I had my feet in. ) The fish are about 3 inches long and have sharp dorsal spines. Not sure what they are, but I see them often when I am paddling around in Portage Bay and the other side of the Montlake Cut. They were joking about eating them.

Sketches from the Outer Limits

SB08_01-17

I have been meaning to sketch this one for a while. I considered just sketching the flag/ sign/ gorilla, but it looks better in context. There are a lot of interesting buildings in Lake City ( the "Outer Limits" as my friend Ericka calls it ). The eye tends to get distracted though by all the miscellaneous signs, shiny metal objects, banners, balloons, inflatable creatures, etc.

This one is a bit north of Pierre Row, off the main drag. The Lake City Dick's Burgers does quite a bit of business.
