Eastern Trip

I recently took a trip east to explore sites related to World War II history which I have an interest in. First stop was in Hanford, WA to take two tours of the reactors and the area that was once small towns and farm land. Both tours were excellent and I recommend them.

I drove to Wyoming to visit the Japanese Internment Camp at Heart Mountain, which is east of Yellowstone. The museum is one of the best and is worth seeing. It compares favorably with the internment camp in Manzanar, CA because you get a real sense of the unpleasant life there.

  1. Interesting. I will make a note and perhaps take a trip, myself. Also in Eastern WA, on the Columbia, is the nation's first WWI memorial, near Marymount. https://redharparts.wordpress.com/2013/08/09/4-august-day-5-of-gorge-trip/

  2. Great sketches, Frank, and interesting tour. I've heard that both Heart Mountain and Manzanar are worth visiting. But I have to make a pilgrimage to Tule Lake someday, which is where my family went.

  3. Nice sketches Frank, we went to Heart Mountain and found it well designed and informative. It also evoked a strong emotional response when I walked into one of the barracks rooms.

  4. Thanks for your comments I appreciate them. Tina there's not much at Tule Lake, I've been there several times, and I was disappointed because a good college friend spent his early years there. David your words are so accurate! A sadness overcame me when I looked at the suitcases and tried to understand it all.
