Sketches from Vancouver BC

It has been a wild three months in Vancouver, BC. I have been settling into my new apartment and getting back into the swing of being a student. I have not had much time to sketch, but wanted to share a couple of drawings I have managed since moving.

The University of British Columbia (UBC) has a great natural history museum. The entire museum is organized by the tree of life and time. This allows you to track the evolution of animals through time and their current state. They also have this great whale skeleton suspended in their lobby.

Iona Park is a great spot on the backside of the Vancouver Airport. A 4-kilometer jetty sticks out into the Salish Sea and you can walk out on it. The park also has great tidal pools and mud flats.

UBC just completed construction of a new student union building. I am not sure how I feel about the building's design but it is a fun space to draw. Something about two story concrete pillars makes me nervous.

  2. I didn't know you were moving to Vancouver either! Very exciting. I hope you come down to visit once in a while. These are really nice drawings. I love the line simplicity and the large simple shapes - and big sky.

I hear Vancouver has an very active usk group.

  3. Thanks for the support. I will be in Seattle in late December. If there is an ad hoc meeting I will definitely attend.
