Ballard Alley
I wouldn't call today balmy! However it was a beautiful crisp winter morning. I played hooky and went out for a couple of hours to sketch with the group. I am glad I did. We had great light and a rare day when the sun was out! I found the wonderful little alley and was attracted to the quality of morning light being reflected onto this old historic wood framed house. I have seen this alley way before. I don't know what it is that attracts me to it, but it always feels so cozy and welcoming. My approach today was to do some quick value studies in pencil and watercolor before starting the sketch. I usually jump right in but taking this methodical approach helped me to look at it for the values first not the color. Thanks to our out of town guest Sharon for suggesting we meet in Old Historic Ballard. Hope to see her at another sketch outing when she visits again!
Beautiful finished sketch, Gail, but I also appreciate seeing your process sketches.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina. It helps me to think about what I am going to do before I do it. And also visualize the composition.
