Sketchcrawl 24, at the Locks

My first stop was the "subterranian" viewing area at the fish ladder. I think it is really cool that they thought to put this in when they built the locks, way back in the early 1900's. The viewing room was indoors out of the rain, too! Fresh water above, salt water below:

I had to do this drawing from memory since the fish had swam (swum? swimmed?) away by the time the rain stopped. And my memory ain't what it used to be, hence the vagueness of my impressions:
It was wonderful to see everyone again, and to meet some new artists for the first time. I'm glad we were able to get some drawings done even whilst dodging the fall raindrops. I guess next time will have to be somewhere indoors!

  1. I love the simplicity of these water colors and how you are able to capture the idea with the suggestion of the water and the fish seen through the depths of the water.

  2. Tim - Though I like the fish, your sketch of the spillway is a favorite. That little fall of water on the left. Man holding back nature (sort of..).
