Sunday morning at the church of coffee

Like Dave, I also did some Sunday morning sketching. But my location wasn't as exciting as his. I went to what I like to call the "church of coffee" Starbucks" at the Mill Creek Town Center. I met my friend Pete there. He's an industrial designer and is just getting the urban sketching bug. After coffee we moved across the street for a sketch of the singular architecture of the coffee house, where instead of bells on the church looking tower you get the twin-tale mermaid logo. Pete did a good job, I hope he'll get a Flickr account going soon and join us here as well.

  2. I've followed your sketches for quite awhile now, Gabi. As usual, love them...And thanks for getting us all together. Your "church of coffee" reminds me of the story about Bertrand Russell's public lecture on astronomy, where he described how the earth orbits the sun and the sun orbits around our galaxy, etc. At the end of the lecture, a woman got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish, young man! The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile and replied, "Is that so? Then, what is the tortoise standing on?" She replied, "It's turtles all the way down!" (That may be true, but, sometimes it seems to be Starbucks!)

  3. Great sketch, Gabi! And very astute observation. Do they have a drive-through?
