National Night Out and the Magnolia Big Band

Each year with have our block party during National Night Out.  It brings our community together with one big party.  For the 7th year we are lucky to have the Magnolia Big Band practice during our block party and I have recorded this event for at least three years.

Here is this year's sketch is of the Magnolia Big Band.  I love sketching these guys.  It is fun to sketch  musicians playing their instruments.  This time I tried to do a simple ...almost blind contour drawing.  The first sketch was done in pencil and the second in pen.  It is amazing how little you have to sketch...to tell the story and give a sense of what is going on.

Sketches from the Anchor Pub in Everett, WA

After the JM Cellars sketchcrawl,  my husband and I went to the Anchor Pub in Everett to meet the Whidbey Island Sketchers and Sharon from the Seattle Sketchers.  The music of the Magnolia Big Band was fabulous! The Anchor Pub is such a great spot and has such atmosphere.

National Night Out

Magnolia Big Band
Tonight was National Night Out.  Our neighborhood blocks the street from through traffic and we have a block party.  Each year it is seems to get bigger and bigger.  Neighborhood kids ride their bikes in the blocked off street, we set up tables and chairs in the street and have a potluck.  Best of all we have our own Big band playing.  One of our neighbors is a member of the Magnolia Big Band.  It is a group that has been together for 40 years playing Big Band Jazz.  Tuesday nights is their practice night so each year on National Night out we get to enjoy their wonderful sound!
