Asian Art Museum

I missed the camaraderi of the last sketchcrawl at Volunteer Park, sadly, could not get off my hill with all the snow. But, I had a lovely day there last weekend with Beth. Got to see those great exhibits before they are gone, we enjoyed sunshine and lunch outdoors sketching.

Observing People & Ballet Dancers

On a recent trip to Texas, I took the opportunity to sketch/paint this woman above, I liked her little bird lips! And I experimented with colors on her face. Kind of reminded me of someone I know.
The second sketch was done last year at tea time in a Canadian hotel, but I recently decided to add color to it.
And this last I sketched while we were at a recent Pacific NW ballet performance, and again, added the colors later. I didn't like my 1st small figure and proceeded to sketch right over & around it...

Sketches from a BC Trip

Here's a few quick sketches from our anniversary trip to British Columbia in October... we took a wonderful boat ride up the Harrison River, great sunny crispy cool weather...

Fishermen were everywhere, on the shore, in the water with hip waders on, standing up in boats...
We had dinner one night in a Chinese restaurant... always fun to save those good fortunes...
People lined up for Tea Time in the hotel after their pool time, dressed in their white robes and bathing suits...
What could be better than a hot cup of tea with cookies on a cool fall day?

Juanita Bay Park

OK, I wimped out of the serious rain at the Ballard Market... it was really pouring here in the north end, but my husband and I did manage to take a short walk and enjoy the crisp air in a nearby park along Lake Washington. The heavy gray clouds burst open again as I was sketching in a non-permanent ink pen, and I caught some interesting rain drop effects on my quick sketch. I later added some color and a few more pen strokes. Juanita Bay Park is a great park in Kirkland -- Lots of interesting scenery here: water lily pads, old posts from a long gone ferry, plank walkways, surrounded with some wetlands, and buildings off in the distant shorelines.

I did get the flavor of a market as we stopped to shop at our favorite IN-door fruit and veggie market on the way home as the rain continued... I'm so glad you are all sharing your sketches!

Catching Up on Sketches

Here's a bit of catch up for me with a few sketches. I'm planning to see you at the Ballard market!

....Fisherman's Terminal in August, a beautiful fun day with sketchers...
.....the Woodland Park Zoo in March with sketchers, brisk weather, but another favorite place...
.....an escape to Bandon, OR, one of my most favorite places, in March, fresh sea air, rocks, exquisite scenery there...
.....a plane trip to Texas to visit family in April, what else could I draw?...
.....a side trip to the Wichita Mountains, OK in May, a wildlife refuge for bison...

Wallingford Center

I'm a little slow posting, and getting over a cold, but here's my sketch painting of the cupcake store, and I was trying out my new sketchbook similar to a moleskin, different brand...it worked well. A fun day.

Volunteer Park - Conservatory Plants

This was a great first time with the group for me, and I got to meet the terrific sketching/ painting artists of Seattle Sketchers.
I always enjoy the Conservatory in the Park, plus it was nice and warm compared to the cold outside this time.... Above I was centering in on a bromeliad.... And then I went to the cactus (cacti?) section...
Time passed so quickly, and before you knew it, we were all up in the Tower, where I'd never been. It was freezing up there, but great views. I thoroughly enjoyed the passing around of the sketchbooks & chatting. I was very inspired by the variety of styles people had, the subjects they selected to sketch, and, wow, some folks can come up with half a dozen sketches so quickly! Can't wait for next time out with the group!
