Olympia Happenin's

I didn't make it up for the Sketchcrawl on Sunday, but I'm still sketching! Recently I've caught a couple of Olympia events on paper.

Tango dancing at the fountain

a once-a-year summertime tradition with dancers prancing amidst the water shoots - often in stiletto heels and Argentinian garb. You can watch or join in from early evening with the sun still blazing until after sundown. It's quite lovely (and very difficult to catch the dramatic moves).

Lakefair - our annual civic carnival - generally a not-so-lovely event, nonetheless, it is colorful and lively so I made it a point to record a few scenes:
First there's the ferris wheel. A sure sign the carny's in town.

This is the Hatterdashery booth. Mike Lofler, hat maker and hat seller since 1967 was down from Seattle with hats upon hats!

After the party, rides are packed and ready for shipping.
