Sunday October 18th sketchcrawl

I had suggested doing it at the Sculpture Park because of a SAM event they wanted me to be at, but that's not happening anymore. Since a few of us already sketchcrawled there a while back, how does Seattle Center sound instead? I think Will may have suggested it last time. If it rains there would be places to take cover. Other ideas? Any cool funky places that Seattle newbies like me have no clue about?

  1. Hi Gabi,

Did you mean the 18th or the 25th?

  2. Seattle Center is great! For future, other great sketching places are Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill, Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill, Golden Gardens/Shilshole Marina in Ballard, Log Boom Park in Kenmore.... just to name a few... We should pick a specific place at the Center to meet since it's so big!

  3. The Center House at Seattle Center, along with the arcade, fountain, skate park etc can offer opportunities for buildings/people/general interest plus weather options. Another idea - I found some opportunities at the new S. Lake Union park and Wooden Boat Center (although that may demand better weather.) I'm also on the lookout for interesting in-neighborhood type spots that would be good for a group of sketchers - any ideas?

  4. Some areas in Georgetown are pretty cool. Columbia city, We have taken students to the International district to draw the gate and the pavilion...there is Union Station. Pioneer Square. Freeway park...
Interior spaces St. Ignatius Chapel on Seattle University Campus, Suzzalo Library on the U.W. Campus. The Arcade area in the Physics Astronomy building on U.W. Campus. If any wanted to get out of Seattle, downtown Tacoma is great for sketching and drawing.

  5. I love coming to Seattle, however, since I live down Tacoma way (in Puyallup) I'll put in a plug for its downtown streets and waterfront area too...all within walkable distance of one another. Huge variety of sketchable spots. A bus from Seattle will take you to the Freight House Square Terminal...then, the free Link street cars take you all over downtown, unless you want to walk...because there are good things to draw all over the place. There's also free parking in the Freight House parking garages if you drive down.

  6. So many great ideas! For the 18th, I suggest meeting at the Center House food court at Seattle Center since it's inside, but perhaps reconvene at the fountain if the weather is good. Then next time, International District, UW or Tacoma?

  7. yeah great ideas! maybe we should create a "master list" of locations. I am with Will about doing this month at the Center House and then working our way down the list after that.

  10. So, we need a time and -- the center house is also large and has several entrances. Shall we meet at the entrance nearest the mural? Is 10:00 good, or is 9:30 better?

  13. Absolutely. If this were an invite-only activity I'd have never been allowed past the velvet rope. I was planning on the usual 9:30 meet-time.

  15. Hello all, Dave Adams from Seattle Sketch Pistols here (www.sketchpistols.com). How late will you guys be going on the 18th? I'm probably going to be there after 2:00pm and I'd love to join you! Any idea where you'll be during 1:45pm to 2pm? I have a feeling that you guys won't be hard to find though.

  16. look for the moleskines! (1:45 might actually find us a lunch, given the 9:30 start time, but it's always fun to meet other sketchers, so hope we can meet up.)

  17. Well our plans changed suddenly, and we didn't make it out to Seattle Center. Sketch Pistols ended up over in Ballard at the Barking Dog Ale house later in the day, so at least we got SOMETHING done! Thankss for responding wsworks!
