Seattle Womxn's March January 21, 2017
It was a bright sunny morning with Pink Pussyhats everywhere. We waited for at least an hour standing in a crowd of wall to wall people on Jackson St. right next to Washington Middle School. If you could get up high enough, you would literally see people all the way up the hill to the east of us, and all the way west toward 4th Avenue about 1.3 miles. Every so often you could hear a roar starting up like a wave coming up the hill and passing over us. It was truly an amazing experience and one I won't forget.
I broke off from the March at the Library to search for an view overlooking the march. I found one on the 4th floor.

Wonderful sketches. GREAT idea to up in the library for a view!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate. It was also a way to sit for a while to sketch but it was hard to find a good spot. I was lucky to find this one.
DeleteFantastic sketches! I love the way you contrast a personal viewpoint with an aerial view!

Thanks Michele, I wanted to show how big that March was and you really can't get that sense unless to see how vast it was from a distance.
DeleteWow, what a great sketch from the library! Bravo!

Thanks Tina, I sat there for about an 45 minutes sketching then adding color. People just continued to march down the street. It seemed endless and I was in the middle of the pack when I took off from the group. That tells you how many people were there. By the time I finished the sketch I was able to see the tail end of the march.
DeleteGreat view overlooking the event...love the color. I tried to get an upper view in Portland but it was not possible, all of those spaces were filled!
ReplyDeleteHow was it in Portland. Have you all posted your sketches? I will have to take a look. It was hard to find a good view point I went to the top floor but the angle of the walls in the library didn't allow a view out. The 5th floor was the same. Just happened to find this view on a floor below. Only a few people had found it too. So not crowded.
DeleteYes. I love these two views of the scene. Such an inspiring day, right?
